It is day three of fall camp and the team is continuing to work hard as the season draws closer.
There are many questions regarding protocols for student-athletes and fans in the stadium. These come along with the normal questions of who will be the star players this year on the field.
There are a few players that will be missing this year such as Marcel Brooks and Justin Thomas but the rest of the team is adapting.
"As Coach O says, it's always next man up," JaCoby Stevens said in regard to losing a few players. They are stepping up and preparing to get the job done no matter the circumstance. Although there were losses, there were strong additions to the team as well such as tight end Arik Gilbert.
"He's an outstanding athlete and we are very grateful to have him on the roster," Myles Brennan said that he runs like a wide receiver and is built like a tight end.
Brennan himself now has a much bigger role but the team is backing him up in that role with full confidence.
“We have 100 percent confidence in Myles. It’s cool to see how Myles grew into his role. He came in and waited his turn and adjusted to his circumstance. We expect to see great things from Myles," Stevens said.
With a lot of time off, the team continued to work hard on zoom meetings and sending work out videos to strength coaches. Brennan says he feels they took advantage of those 11 weeks off as a team.
"When I came in I knew I was going to have to fight for a starting position, and I'm still fighting every day," Brennan said keeping the mentality of winning each day.
The athletes are getting through this fall camp a little differently then normal with new protocols set in place.
“I feel safe. Ms. Shelly and Coach O are staying on top of it... They take our temperature and give us a wrist band to be able to walk through the building. We have to wear a mask wherever we go,” Stevens said these were a few things that were different within the facility. He also encourages students to follow the protocols.
Fall camp will continue until the start of school and then on to normal practice until the season starts on September 26th.
