Two LSU students will have the opportunity to represent the state of Louisiana in the National American Miss Pageant on Saturday, Nov. 28. Louisiana natives Madeline Gilmore and Vivien Poche are both state queens in their age categories, and will travel to Orlando, Florida to compete for a national title.

Madeline Gilmore, an LSU Junior, currently holds the title of National American Miss Louisiana 2020. “It took me six years to obtain this title,” said Gilmore. “Through every year after leaving without a crown on my head, it was hard, it was difficult, but I became more of the person that I am today.”

This weekend, Madeline will be competing for the title of National American Miss.

LSU Freshman Vivien Poche, Miss Louisiana Teen 2020, will be competing for a national title as well on Saturday. Although pageant life can be stressful, Vivien shared via Instagram, “Make the most of your pageant experience. Don’t get too caught up in competing and miss out on all the unforgettable memories you could be making!”

Madeline is a political science and finance major studying pre-law at LSU. She is also a proud member of the Delta Gamma sorority, where she is able to volunteer and aid visually impaired students. This volunteer work is “one of the most important” activities to her.

“It’s such an honor to represent LSU.” said Madeline in an interview with BR Proud News. “I think with Vivien being an LSU student as well, it really goes to say something about the university, and their students being well rounded, goal oriented people.”

Vivien Poche is studying psychology and english in the Ogden Honors College at LSU. Poche is also a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

For Madeline, pageants have opened doors, and helped her grow as a person. “I’m most grateful for this pageant because I’ve been able to get interviews in Washington D.C. [and]  the Louisiana Senate. But most importantly it’s created a sense of confidence.”

“It’s just been everything for me.” Gilmore said.

Required competitions will take place on Saturday, and finals will be held on Sunday. More information on the National American Miss Pageant can be found on their website.
