The Greater Baton Rouge State Fair is moving from the Capital City to Ascension Parish. The fair has always been a special event to the city of Baton Rouge, known for its great food, rides, games and entertainment.

The fair has been held at the fairgrounds on Airline Highway since 1973 up until 2022.

The property owner of the fairground, BREC, announced about four years ago that they would be turning the property into a community park.

"Its a beautiful community park that they've designed, but they took away a lot of the infrastructure we need to host a fair." Greater Baton Rouge State Fair Chairman, Cliff Barton, said.

The fair organization started the process for the move last year in 2021 and found a new location to host fair at Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales, Louisiana.

The fair opened Thursday Oct. 27 and will run through Nov. 6.

Gates will open at 5:00 p.m on Friday and noon on the Saturday and Sunday.
