The east side of campus is introducing two new dorms come Fall 2021. With the new floor plans, these dorms will follow all COVID guidelines.
Construction for two new dorms began in Fall 2019. With the Class of 2025 beginning the enrollment process, the dorms will open in time for incoming students to choose these dorms this May and June.
“So all the rooms in the dorms are the two-student foyer suite style rooms...so that occupancy level meets the [COVID guidelines] we were given in Fall 2020,” said Catherine David, Residential Life communications and development associate directory.
The new dorms are Azalea Hall and Camellia Hall, which will be located in the area newly named the Garden District. This area is located near the UREC, East Campus Apartments and Herget Hall.
With the opening of these two dorms also comes the closing of two current dorms.
“Our plan right now is to retire Kirby Smith Hall and Louis Garig Hall unless we see that we need more space for incoming students,” David said.
These two dorms will no longer be available for students to select on their housing portals when they open.
As far as Move-In Day, ResLife plans to create a hybrid plan that resembles pre-COVID protocol and the protocol used in Fall 2020.
