Fast food chain Raising Cane’s celebrated their 25th anniversary Wednesday, announcing their commitment of $25 million to non-profits, organizations, and schools from coast-to-coast over the next 12 months.
The Baton Rouge based company was founded by LSU alumnus Todd Graves, who thought of the Cane’s business plan for a college class assignment. Graves kicked off the anniversary celebration by announcing the donation of $25,000 to both the Baton Rouge Area Foundation and Feeding Louisiana.
Graves says there’s no better way to celebrate the occasion than by giving back to the community.
“It’s my purpose, my purpose is to hire great crew and give them a place to work and take those values with them. It’s also to give back to our communities, so it’s humbling to me that in the past 25 years we’ve been able to give $100 million back to our communities,” Graves said.
“Now, we can do it in our birthday year, and give $25 million. What better way to celebrate 25 years of business success than to give back $25 million to the communities we do business in.”
Graves also offered a tour of the apartment he lived in during his time at LSU and the birthplace of Raising Cane’s. He says it’s important for his employees to see the roots of the company.
“It’s important to me to do this because when our managers come through now and see what we come from, I want them to know our roots and get the nostalgia of it," Graves said.
"We are doing something bigger than ourselves; we’re doing something bigger than chicken fingers and Cane’s sauce; we’re doing things that can help people. I’ve actually brought over a thousand managers through this apartment and through Cane’s One,” he continued.
Graves expressed how much the LSU community means to him and the Raising Cane’s legacy.
“This is just such a special place for me, and such a special school and community. I have lived my whole adult life in this quarter mile radius around the north gates of LSU and I call it home,” Graves said.
The restaurant chain has grown to nearly 600 locations since it’s establishment in 1996, and Graves says the company plans to expand more in the next year.
