An Amazon Distribution Center is coming to Baton Rouge and taking over the space of the 45-year-old Cortana Mall located at the intersection Airline Highway and Florida Boulevard.
Demolition has already begun at the mall, and the final tenant, Dillard’s Clearance Center, is expected to close by the end of the month.
The Distribution Center is expected to bring more than one thousand jobs to the Baton Rouge Area with minimum pay of fifteen dollars.
The Cortana Regional Distribution Facility is just one of many “dead” malls that Amazon has been collecting for distribution centers across the country.
Baton Rouge Mayor-President Broome stated her support for the third distribution center in the area during the Metro Council Zoning Meeting in March.
“I am proud to stand here and fully support the rezoning of the development of the former Cortana Mall," said Broome, “This generational project will create more than 1,000 new jobs for our area residents.”
The Cortana Regional Distribution Facility will work with Louisiana’s first Amazon fulfillment center in Carencro that is expected to open by the end of the year to provide faster delivery for customers.
