LSU will be receiving over $18 million as a part of the federal stimulus package enacted last month to help with coronavirus relief.
The stimulus package will be sending around $14 billion in grants to institutions of higher education. The money is being distributed in hopes of helping colleges and universities with taking measures such as moving to online instruction and the general economic struggles caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Half of the amount that each institution will receive is reserved for emergency student aid and, according to the U.S. Department of education, will be distributed immediately.
The amount of money an institution receives is determined by a formula weighted toward those enrolling large numbers of students who qualify for Pell grants. Arizona State University is receiving the most amount of money, at over $63 million.
