Amid the closing of school for coronavirus, students heard hearing rumors about certain scholarships possibly ending.
The Pelican Promise Scholarship aids students who struggle with affording college. Many students have been concerned that this scholarship has been quietly discontinued because they have not seen it in their financial aid portals for next year yet.
To receive the Pelican Promise Scholarship, a student must meet the criteria for the federal Pell grant program, have a family income of no more than 150 percent of the federal poverty level and qualify as a Louisiana resident.
Freshman Alexandra Thibodeaux expressed concern over the future of her college career if the scholarships are discontinued.
When asked if the scholarship would be available for the fall 2020 semester, a representative from LSU’s Financial Aid office said, “Yes, it should be funded for next year.”
Due to limited statements about the state of the scholarship, some students are still unclear about their financial aid status. For more information regarding specific scholarships, contact the LSU Financial Aid office at (225)578-3103.
