LSU kicked off the annual Environmental Film Festival last Thursday by holding a Sustainability Social and Art Show. Two local artists and environmental vendors were there promoting less food waste.

Shade Wynfrey, a communications worker for Environmental Film Festival and Undergraduate student at LSU, talks about just how bad food waste can effect our environment.

“When we put food into a landfill as opposed to composting food, it doesn’t go back into the soil. That food doesn’t revitalize the soil from which it came from,” Wynfrey said.

Wynfrey says students can help keep food waste down by just simply planning a little more. She advises taking advantage of the meal plans at LSU, as well as eating leftovers.

Cutting down waste is something everyone can do, whether it be eating at dining halls more or simply keeping leftovers.
