The LSU community is mourning the loss of 19-year-old student Liam McDuff after he was shot and killed at a party in New Iberia early Sunday morning.
McDuff was attending a party at the former Sugar Oaks horse barn when an uninvited group of partygoers arrived. A member of the uninvited group shot McDuff when they were asked to leave.
He was rushed to Iberia Medical Center where he died from a single gunshot wound.
A male juvenile, 15, has been arrested in the investigation for Second Degree Murder. Richard Perez, 18, has also been arrested for Accessory After the Fact of Second Degree Murder and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Juvenile.
Investigators do not believe that McDuff was specifically targeted.
McDuff was a member of the Theta Xi fraternity and recently made the Dean’s List at LSU. He graduated from Catholic High School in 2019, where he was a member of the golf team.
McDuff’s friends and family say, “To know Liam is to love him.”
