The LSU Presidential Search Committee met electronically Thursday to review the progress in choosing the next president of LSU.
Laurie Wilder of Parker Executive Search, the committee's chosen search firm, said that they have began advertising the position in different publications and have started receiving nominations.
There are currently 34 nominations. However, nominations do not necessarily mean that the individual is interested in the position. Other individuals that have not been nominated, but have shown an interest in the position, are also being considered.
Creating a diverse pool of candidates is a priority to the search committee. The committee and search firm will continue to meet with different interest groups to ensure candidates representative all aspects of the LSU community.
Understanding of the LSU system is another priority, according to Wilder. The Louisiana State University System spans over multiple campuses and includes medical schools and a law school.
"It's important for us," Wilder says, "to look at systems who are in those leadership positions that understand not only one campus but understand the broad community."
