In a press conference Friday, Governor John Bel Edwards and Dr. Joseph Kanter from the Louisiana Department of Health announced the launch of a new smartphone app meant to help Louisianans avoid exposure to COVID-19.
The app alerts users if someone they were exposed to within a two-week time frame has tested positive for the virus.
Governor Edwards announced that vaccines for the coronavirus have been going out to all 64 parishes each week since the beginning of the rollout, and 379,950 first doses will have been given as of Saturday.
Kanter also said the app could help among vaccine shortages, especially since the new variant of coronavirus originally found in the UK was identified in the New Orleans area last week.
The app is available in the Apple app and Android store now.
