The Ascension Parish School Board handed out free meals to anyone 18-years-old or younger Thursday morning, March 26.
A mixed crew of janitors, bus drivers, lunch laddies and other school officials handed out more than 1,000 free meals to hundreds of families.
When asked why she showed up to volunteer, Rea Holley, a bus driver, gave a simple answer.
"Because I love 'em," she said. "Everyone loves these kids and wants to help them."
The school board will hand out packages with a week's worth of meals to families Monday, March 30. However, the school board hasn't announced how it'll continue feeding students after next week.
"We have to go week to week," Ascension School Board Public Information Officer Jackie Tisdell said, referring to the fluidity and ever-changing nature of the pandemic.
