Today thousands of young athletes are signing their names to start their college careers. Dozens of the nation's top football recruits will head to Baton Rouge and the purple and gold.
The first early signee comes from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Marlon Martinez, a three-star recruit, will bulk up the offensive Tigers line. Martinez is a guard from St. Thomas Aquinas High School, where he was a versatile blocker and big body protecting their quarterback.
Max Johnson, son of former NFL quarterback Brad Johnson, signed with the Tigers hoping to follow in Heisman winner Joe Burrow's footsteps. Johnson is a top prep quarterback who can use his 6-4 frame to launch deep passes in OC Steve Ensminger's offense. The glamour of QBs at LSU has grown, and LSU racked up yet another top QB from inside the Pelican State by signing TJ Finely. Finely has been compared by 247Sports as a Feliepe Franks-type QB.
Defensive coordinator Dave Aranda gained Elias Ricks and Antoine Sampah. Ricks is the No. 1 cornerback in Florida and uses his athletic 6-2 frame to shut down receivers. Ricks will be coming from IMG Academy, a school that seems to be a one-stop-shop for Power Five teams. Adding to the Tiger's defensive side is Antoine Sampah, an inside linebacker who understands how to diagnose plays quickly.
Hoping to restore LSU's title as DBU are local DLs Jaquelin Roy and Jacobian Guillory. Washington-native Ali Gaye adds to the defensive line along with Eric Taylor out of Alabama.
The hype surrounding Justin Jefferson and Ja'Marr Chase was palpable with the signing of multiple wide receivers. Four-star Kayshon Boutte out of New Iberia adds to the Tiger's lineup as well as Koy Moore from Kenner.
LSU's reach of recruiting has spread beyond Louisiana's borders this year with commits signing from all across the nation. Four-star safety Jordan Toles comes to Louisiana from Maryland and TE Kole Taylor comes all the way from Colorado. Two signees from Marietta High School in Georgia will don the purple and gold with Arik Gilbert and BJ Ojulari. Coming out of Florida is the nephew of former pro bowler Elvis Dumervil, OL Marcus Dumervil. Xavier Jill rounds out the offensive line coming out of Mississippi with LB Phillip Webb on the other side of the ball.
