Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders suspended his 2020 presidential campaign as he plunged too far behind opponent, former Vice President Joe Biden.

Biden unexpectedly swept numerous delegates from key states such as Florida and Michigan, leading with 1,217 delegates overall, and Sanders trailed behind with 912.

With many primaries postponed to late June, such as Louisiana and New York, Sanders' suspension presumably hands the Democratic presidential nomination to Biden. This will be formally decided in August at the Democratic National Convention.
