Torchy's, an Austin based tex-mex restaurant, is opening in Baton Rouge April 1.
The opening comes after news in fall 2019 that Torchy's is expanding to Louisiana.
“When I go visit my aunt in Texas I always go there so i’m so excited it’s opening up on Nicholson,” said third year student Ava Arcemont.
The restaurant is located on Nicholson Drive in the University’s Nicholson Gateway development, next to Matherne’s Market and Wendys.
What started as a food truck in Austin in 2006, founder Mike Rypka’s popular chain has grown with locations in several states.
“We operate over 70 locations located across Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado and Arkansas and we’re always dedicated to serving the best freshest quality ingredients all the time,” said front of house manager Emily Paige.
Torchys prides themselves in fresh ingredients and a wide menu.
“We make all of our stuff daily. It’s basically a craft-casual concept, meaning we make all our salsas in-house, we make all of our lime juice for our margaritas daily,” Paige said.
They also plan on accepting tiger cash for LSU students.
“We are working on being an approved vendor with LSU so we’ll be able to accept payment with tiger cash hopefully within the near future,” Paige said.
Torchy's is planning on expanding with 100 new locations within the next five years.
