LSU fashion merchandising sophomore Hannah Fontenot won the title, 2021 Miss LSU, Sunday during the Miss LSU pageant hosted by the sorority, Delta Zelta.
This year’s pageant marked Fontenot’s first time competing in Miss LSU after the pandemic postponed 2020 Miss LSU to 2021.
However, the delay gave Fontenot another year to prepare for the competition's private interview, swimsuit event, evening gown event and onstage question.
Due to COVID-19 guidelines, the normally-crowded theater was empty this year, which made winning the crown without the cheers of friends and family harder for Fontenot.
"It was hard for me, but I knew they were coming on their way to be right there,” said Fontenot. “More importantly, they were in my heart and [were] cheering me on from home. It was definitely different.”
Fontenot said she is excited to see what the year brings as she takes on this new role as an ambassador for the university.
Fontenot wants to accomplish many goals during her reign by beginning a chapter on campus called Dress to Success. She said the chapter will teach students the importance of helping women who have been involved in domestic violence.
"Hopefully we can boost all of our confidence by excelling in both academics and for our professional future post-grad," said Fontenot.
Fontenot plans to prepare for the Miss Louisiana USA pageant representing LSU.
