Grammy Award winning singer Kanye West brought his popular “Sunday Service” to Baton Rouge Friday, November 1.
The performance was at Bethany Church under the shadow of the large crosses that can be seen from Interstate 12, near Siegen Lane.
West has been hosting his exclusive “Sunday Service” at his home in Los Angeles, but has been touring across the country with an 80-piece chorus over the past few months.
One service goer said of her excitement, “Well I haven’t seen Kanye since Yeezus, and when I heard he was coming here I was so excited so I had to get here, a little late, but hey the fashion makes up for it.”
Thousands of people attended the sold-out event, which took place outside.
West performed songs from his latest album, Jesus is King, which is a unique departure from his previous work.
LSU third-year student, Ava Arcemont, said of the service, “It was just so spiritual, everybody was singing his songs and singing his new album.”
West was also accompanied by his children, who were singing and dancing along to Kanye’s performance.
Arcemont also shared her excitement at seeing Kanye’s children, saying, “When he put Saint on his shoulders, that was so amazing.”
Jesus is King is currently No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Chart, his ninth consecutive No. 1 album. It’s also No. 1 on iTunes worldwide.
