The Weekend Ahead – 2/3/11

By Jeff Rhodes, Sports Showtime Co-Director

It’s Super Bowl weekend, and LSU athletics is offering a plethora of events for fans to attend on campus as they await the big game.

The action starts Friday night at 7:00 when the Gymnastics team welcomes Kentucky into the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.  LSU enters the meet ranked fourteenth in the GymInfo standings, despite a 1-6 record.

LSU holds a 64-5 all-time record against Kentucky, despite losses to the Wildcats the last two seasons.

The match is a priority points match for students, and adult tickets are $5.  Youth tickets are $3.

The men’s basketball team hosts the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday at 12:45.  LSU lost by 9 at Arkansas three weeks ago, and will be looking for revenge.

They will also look to snap a three game losing streak.  The Tigers are 2-5 in the SEC, and will need a strong finish to have a shot at making the postseason.

The game will also be televised on the SEC network.

The women’s tennis team welcomes future conference foe Texas A&M to Dub Robinson Stadium Sunday at 1:00.  The lady Tigers are coming off a 7-0 victory at Colorado, and want to start their home stand off right.  They will also play Southern and Rice on Tuesday.

The women’s basketball team hosts Kentucky on Sunday at 2:00.  The Lady Tigers look to snap a five game conference losing streak.

They will face an uphill battle, as Kentucky comes in ranked fifth in the country.  LSU will need a big game from LaSondra Barrett to have a chance against the Wildcats.

Fans are encouraged to wear gold for this game, as it is the “gold game.”
