National Signing Day Recap

LSU completed its 2012 recruiting class Wednesday by filling crucial needs at linebacker, defensive back and quarterback.
LSU Coach Les Miles said linebacker was the team’s biggest need, and he felt that his staff addressed that issue.
“The opportunity to recruit a great class there is just what this football team needed,” Miles said. “These are guys that will play special teams and have great speed on the field. They will be the youth that will replenish this linebacking corps.”
Oxford, Ala. linebacker Kwon Alexander highlighted this group. Rivals rates him as a four-star prospect and the twentieth overall outside linebacker recruit in the nation.
Corey Thompson of Missouri City, Tex. filled a need at safety after the Tigers lost senior Brandon Taylor to graduation. Rivals rates the 6’2”, 205 pound defensive back as a four-star recruit.
After Notre Dame quarterback Gunner Kiel decommitted from LSU in January, the Tigers needed to sign a signal-caller in this year’s class. Jeremy Liggins of Oxford, Miss. made his announcement in front of family and friends at the square in Oxford Monday night.
“He’s a guy who can throw the football and move his feet and would give us a very talented prospect at quarterback,” Miles said.
Other players who stand out from this class are running back Jeremy Hill of Redemptorist, wide receiver Avery Johnson, the younger brother of former LSU star Patrick Peterson and Edna Karr offensive lineman Derek Edinburgh.
Rivals ranks LSU as the number 16 overall recruiting class in the nation.
